Cylinder with single-acting valve (spring return) and one sensor

This article is about a cylinder that is either extended or retracted. The parameters are assigned in the system layer and further changes are applied in the settings.

In this example, we have a spring-returned cylinder with only one end position in the home position. This means the cylinder can be extended or retracted but has no intermediate positions. In the home position, the cylinder is either fully extended or fully retracted. The spring return of the cylinder ensures that it automatically returns to the home position after extension or retraction.

In the system layer, an In Zone is used for the end position in the home position. An InOut zone is used for the work position. This zone's output is the valve responsible for extending the cylinder. This means that when the signal is activated at this output, the valve is opened, and the cylinder extends. The input of this zone is the inverted signal of the end position of the cylinder in the home position. This means that the signal at this input is the opposite of the signal, indicating whether the cylinder is in the home position. If the signal at this input is activated, the cylinder is not in the home position but in a different position.

If the motor is to be switched off, the In Zone for Motor Off is monitored with an S-Sequence Check.

Properties must also be changed in the InOut zone:
  • The input is inverted and given a time delay
  • "Keep-Alive" is activated for the output
